The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren: Book Review (more like book praise)

I want to start by saying that I read this book in under 24 hours. It’s not often that I find a book that does that to me. I literally could not put it down. This was the first Christina Lauren book that I have read and its safe to say it won’t be the last.

I think the plot was what got me. Reading the back cover blurb, I knew it was right up my alley. Olive is the maid of honour at her twin sisters wedding (in an ugly bridesmaids dress, of course) where everyone gets food poisoning (my literal worst nightmare) except her and her nemesis, Ethan (also the best man and her new brother-in-law, weird, I know). Olive’s sister insists that she takes their honeymoon, while Ethan’s brother also insists the same. They resist at first but ultimately decide to go on a free trip to Hawaii because duh, free trip to Hawaii. And so the enemies embark on a hilariously awkward but also hilariously hilarious adventure involving old ex’s, new bosses, seasickness (I relate all too well) and Maui sunsets.

I have to admit, I’m a sucker for an enemies to friends to lovers storyline, and this definitely did not disappoint. The banter was everything and the romance was perfect (so was the epilogue but I won’t spoil that bit). Basically, I just really loved the two main characters.

They say not to judge a book by its cover but in this case, JUDGE AWAY! This is one of my favourite covers I have on my bookshelf. It feels luxurious. It’s the type of book to read poolside at a five-star beach resort.

Charming, witty, funny and utterly swoon-worthy.

And I would like to end this by saying that this would be a perfect movie (apart from the disgusting vomiting scene I imagine – am I the only one that doesn’t find these funny but just really gross?). My only request is that I can be part of it, a producer, actor, screenwriter, hell I’ll even take a non-speaking extra roll where I walk past in the background and nobody can tell its me except… me.

Overall, it was charming, witty, funny and utterly swoon-worthy.

Star Ratings:

Overall Rating: 5/5

Olive and Ethans banter: 6/5

Swoon-worthiness: 5/5

Q&A:

Would I read it again? Heck Yes.

Would I watch a movie adaption? I WANT TO BE IN IT.

Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes, yes and again, yes.
