How To Ace Your Next Job Interview

Job interviews are intimidating things. You feel like you have to look your best, talk your best and be your best. In my (not so extensive) experience in job interviews, I have had a few epiphanies that I would like to share to hopefully make the experience a little less daunting for your next interview (so you can ace it!).

Be Yourself

Yes, you heard me right. Just be yourself!

You need to be present in the moment in order to not feel anxious. Being present in the interview means that you are hearing their questions and thoughtfully responding, without thinking ‘omg I’m so nervous’ or ‘I shouldn’t have said that’ or ‘what do I want for dinner tonight’.

The goal is to be present in the moment but in order to do that, you first need to be yourself. It’s the easiest way to get there.

You can’t be yourself without also being present in the moment.

Relax

Try having the super chill vibe. The ‘I kind of want this but I kind of don’t care’ vibe that surfer dudes have. Most people who have this vibe have a low-key ‘I’m going to ace this’ attitude that isn’t too overconfident, apply this to a job interview and you are golden.

Of course, try your best during the interview, but don’t put so much pressure on yourself to be prefect (because you won’t be).

Just know that if its meant to be it will be and if not, then something better is around the corner.

Be Confident (you got this!)

Be confident in your ability to do the job, and do it well. It doesn’t matter if you have to talk yourself into confidence at this stage. A new job is daunting no matter how experienced you are. You never know exactly what they want from you until you start, or how you will be treated or what your coworkers will be like. So go in with the confidence where you simply assume that you can do the job.

Simplify it if you have to. Take it off the pedestal.

If you are going for an executive assistant role just say, ‘it’s just a glorified receptionist’ or if you are going for an event management role, say ‘it’s a glorified customer service role!’.

Simplify it.
